Jacksonville University is an 85 year-old institution with four colleges and it is just hitting its stride. With the level of undergraduate research available to practically every student and the big investments in Arts (performance, visual, graphic animation and film), Jacksonville University is an attractive option for a very wide variety of students. They offer more than 100 majors, minors, and programs as well as pre-professional studies in dentistry, law, pharmacy and human as well as veterinary medicine. Of the 2900 undergraduates at Jacksonville University, 28% are athletes. The university supports 20 D-1 Sports and is one of the most diverse colleges in Florida. Davis School of Business makes available a significant number of strong internship opportunities. There is a wide range of majors available within the business college but none more surprising than Aviation Management and Aviation Management and Flight Operations. Jacksonville is one of the top five healthcare hubs in the country. The Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences contains the highly-regarded Keigwin School of Nursing, the School of Applied Health Sciences and the School of Orthodontics.
There is a dizzying combination of performing, visual and media arts and some of that creativity has spilled over into the community in the form of murals and craft breweries. Students can graduate with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering but what sets the engineering degrees from Jacksonville University apart is the two-semester senior design courses that require students to apply the scientific and technological foundation they acquire to real engineering projects. This concept for engineers blends well with Jacksonville being a military town. The Navy has a noticeable presence and the university embraces that presence by supporting Naval ROTC.
Study abroad opportunities are available all over the world with select courses that satisfy credit hours required by Jacksonville University. Interested students also have the exciting opportunity to earn an entire semesters credit at either of two partner institutions: the Sant’Anna Institute in Sorrento, Italy and the Barcelona School for International Studies in Barcelona, Spain.
Jacksonville University offers a number of summer camps for high school students from mid-July through late August. They are a test optional school but with 1120 and above on the SAT or 23 and above on the ACT, they encourage students to send their scores.
