East Texas Baptist University is small, 4-year, private liberal arts college. This coed college is located in Marshall, Texas. It was founded as the College of Marshall in 1912, later becoming East Texas Baptist College in 1944 and East Texas Baptist University in 1984. Marshall has a population of 23,080, enough people to gives ETBU a suburban feel.
Attractions offered in the city of Marshall include a convention center, a downtown city park with an Amphitheater, and Caddo Lake Wildlife Refuge. Marshall is home to a Symphony Orchestra, the Memorial City Hall Performance Center, the Michelson Museum of Art and the Texas & Pacific Railway Depot Museum.
East Texas Baptist University has a student population of 1,471 undergraduates. The ethnic makeup of the school is 64 percent White, 17 percent Black, 13 percent Hispanic, and 4 percent Two+ Races. Women make up 56 percent of the students and 90 percent of the first-year students live in college housing.
The most popular choice if majors is Interdisciplinary Studies with 18 percent of the student population. Another 17 percent of the students are Business/Marketing majors. Education and Health each have 10 percent of the students and 8 percent major in Parks and Recreation. The school is heavily invested in the performing arts and offers opportunities to become involved in Campus Ministries, Government or Political Activity, Literary Magazine, and Model United Nations. There are no fraternities or sororities but there are 16 D 3 men’s and women’s athletic sports teams to cheer for.
Admitted students typically have SAT scores that range from 920-1120 or ACT scores of 17-22. The only application accepted by ETBU is their own. Successful applicants can expect a sticker price of $40, 564 to attend school at ETBU. Students are required to attend Chapel services on a regular, recurring basis. It is an important part of student engagement at ETBU for all undergraduate students. Chapel Credit must be earned every semester a student is enrolled. These credits are earned each semester by attending 22 of the scheduled Chapels.
