Introducing The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is a large, 4-year, public university in a suburban setting and is located in Edinburg, Texas. Edinburg is the county seat of Hidalgo County. The population is estimated to be 101,170 making it the second largest city in Hidalgo County, and the third largest city in the larger Rio Grande Valley region. The student population totals about 24,965 undergraduate students with 4,793 degree-seeking freshmen.

The top majors in order of popularity are Biology, Business/Marketing, Health Professions, Security and Protective Services, Psychology, and Engineering. The male to female makeup of the student population is 57% Women to 43% Men. The ethnic makeup of the college is 92% Hispanic, 2% White, 1% Asian, 2% Unknown, and 2% Non-Resident Alien. Only one percent of all the students at UTRGV are from outside the state of Texas.

The score range on the SAT exam for the middle 50% of successful applicants is 940-1100. That score range on the ACT exam is 17-22. Students can expect to pay about $21, 924 a year to live on campus while attending classes at UTRGV.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is one of the newest colleges in the state of Texas. It was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 as the first major public university of the 21st century in Texas along with a new School of Medicine. The first class was enrolled in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine welcomed its first class in the summer of 2016.

In addition to numerous organizations, leadership and community service opportunities and the study abroad program, students have fourteen Division One sports teams to cheer for. UTRGV is a member of the WAC. In addition to on-campus activities for students, Edinburg has a unique mix of entertainment venues, pro sports teams and restaurants. The culture of the Rio Grande valley offers an educational experience like few other universities can duplicate.
