Get Your FAFSA Application Submitted – NOW!

The FAFSA application has been live online for almost two weeks now. If you have not already submitted it, get to work and take care of that chore ASAP. The only things of equal importance for college-bound high school seniors are maintaining good grades and completing your college applications. Just like all the other important things you do, a little preparation will make the job a lot easier. Below are a few things you will need in order to speed you through the process.

The first thing you will need is an FAS account. If you are still being supported by a parent or guardian, one of them will need an account also. You will also need your Social Security number. Be sure you have access to that number. The application is incomplete without it. You will also need your driver’s license number. If you don’t have one, don’t worry about it.

One very important part of the application is your tax records. Both student and parents will need to submit this information. It is suggested that you use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool. It will download your forms directly from the IRS. You will also need a record of your assets including savings and checking account balances, as well as the value of investments such as stocks, bonds, and real estate except for the house you live in. The only other thing you will need is the list of schools where you plan to send applications.

When completing the FAFSA form, make sure that you are using the fafsa.gov website or the myStudentAid mobile app. There are companies out there using the .net, .com and other web addresses that will charge you a fee to submit this free application.

Once you have added all this information into the form and checked it for accuracy, the application will be ready to submit. All the information above is to help you gather all the materials needed to successfully complete the FAFSA application and every piece of that information will have alternate instructions for special circumstances. Make sure that you understand what is required if some of your information doesn’t fit neatly into all the little boxes on the form. A very large amount of money has been set aside to help with college expenses for those who need it. Don’t miss out on claiming yours.
