Introducing DePaul University

DePaul is the largest Catholic-affiliated University in the country and is located in Chicago Illinois. Though there is a course religion requirement, these courses are very interesting in their exploration of different religions and perspectives. DePaul happen to be one of the most progressive Catholic universities around boasting a LGBTQ Center as well as LGBTQ studies on campus. They are on the quarter system but you will get used to that.

If you are a serious artist, then DePaul is the place to be. They have a lot on the largest production studio outside Los Angeles, the Cinespace. It gives their students endless opportunities to work on productions and make meaningful contacts. The theater and music majors are not for the faint of heart. You must have confidence in your abilities and perform as well as the very best if you want to study those majors at DePaul.

It’s definitely not all about art at DePaul. Their three most popular majors are Film and Television, Accounting and Computer Science but if your mind is set on a professional school, the Law School at DePaul has a 3+3 BA/JD program that allows you to bypass the LSAT. They are also partnered with Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science and that relationship allows you to apply for medical school at the end of the sophomore year with no MCAT score required. Even though they do not offer an engineering degree, the 3+2 partnership with Illinois Institute of Technology allows you to begin your engineering degree on the DePaul campus.

Your chances of getting accepted at DePaul are good if you have earned about a 3.6 GPA and around a 1,200 on the SAT. These are not hard and fast numbers. Do your research if interested. As the margin by which you exceed those scores increases, so does the amount of merit scholarship money. There are a number of scholarships small and large available so do your research and don’t overlook any of it.

As with any private institution, sticker price makes a local public school look much more affordable. Don’t let that keep you from doing your homework and talking with admission and financial aid departments to see if bringing the cost of attendance in line with your available resources is possible.
